Rochefort + Corderie Royale

Rochefort, a historic maritime town, is home to the Corderie Royale, a former naval arsenal turned museum, and offers tours of the port and replicas of historic ships.

Rochefort, in the Charente-Maritime region, is a historic town founded in the 17th century by Colbert, which became a major naval arsenal. Today, it's prized for its maritime heritage.


The Corderie Royale, built in 1666, is a 374-meter-long former rope factory, now transformed into an international maritime center with an interactive museum on maritime history.


The port of Rochefort is home to replicas of historic ships, including the famous frigate Hermione, linked to the American War of Independence. Guided tours of this iconic ship are available.


The town also offers cultural activities such as the Musée des Commerces d'Autrefois and the Jardin des Retours, a green space for relaxing strolls.
